Description
Diazepam, a benzodiazepine, belongs to the group of sleep and tranquilizers and is also used to treat seizures. Diazepam enhances the effect of a transmitter substance (gamma-aminobutyric acid) in the brain, which dampens brain activity. As a result, the drug is anxiolytic and soothing, but also antispasmodic and muscle-relaxing and can be used in severe cramps, such as epileptic seizures or febrile seizures.
